At the coronation of Her Majesty The Queen, ten heraldic beasts stood guard. The plaster models were created for the occasion, symbolising the various strands of royal ancestry brought together in a young woman about to be crowned queen.
Taking inspiration from the original statues, the Royal Mint has created the sense of strength and courage the beasts were intended to convey The coins will each depict one of The Queens Beasts, reimagined by Royal Mint coin designer Jody Clark. Jody also created the most recent definitive coinage portrait of Her Majesty to appear on United Kingdom coins. His bold interpretation of the Lion of England was the first to be released, now followed by the Griffin, associated with Edward III. This will be the second in a series of ten designs that will celebrate each of The Queens Beasts. A VERY COLLECTABLE COIN AT BULLION PRICES.
